There is nothing that elicits quite as much fear from a soldier as the thought of a sniper. Snipers have always been the boogeymen of the infantry, because an infantryman in a war never knows when his life might be at the mercy of a sniper sitting in a tree hundreds of yards away – he might perish without ever knowing what it was that hit him. Airsoft sniper rifles allow you to fulfill much the same role in an airsoft game, with the only difference being that you would not be taking someone's life, but just their pride.
Any airsoft sniper rifle must be able to hit targets that are relatively far away, otherwise it would not live up to the name of sniper rifle. The only way to do that is to increase the power with which the BBs are expelled from the gun. Sniper rifles are therefore extremely powerful, able to shoot much further than other airsoft guns such as shotguns and assault rifles.
In addition, because a sniper much be extremely accurate, and accuracy is determined in large part by the gun that you use, an airsoft sniper rifle is built to be more accurate than other types of airsoft gun. This is usually achieved by having the barrel consist of a single piece, which minimizes the amount of variation that might be present along the path that the BB has to travel from the time it is fired to the time it leaves the muzzle of the gun. The other way this is achieved is by extending the length of the barrel. The longer the barrel, the straighter the path of the BB, and this is a tried-and-tested principle that has been imported from the manufacture of real weapons.
With such a powerful gun, however, there are also a few drawbacks. The first and most important is that it is much easier to injure someone who is not adequately protected. In general, this is not much of a danger in terms of a hit to the body. At most, the BB might penetrate the skin slightly, but it will most certainly not cause any lasting injury. The eyes, however, are a different matter entirely.
A BB shot from any airsoft has the potential to injure or even blind a person if it hits that person in the eye. Given the much higher power of sniper rifles, any person hit in the eye would undoubtedly suffer serious damage to that eye. It is therefore absolutely essential that anyone involved with the use of airsoft guns wear protective eyewear. In order to guarantee that your eyes will be protected from harm, you should wear glasses that wrap around your face, leaving no gaps at the sides of your face where a stray shot might just find its way into one of your eyes.
By ensuring that you and your friends are adequately protected, you will have a much more fun and engaging game without having to worry about someone getting hurt or injured, and you will be able to use high powered guns such as airsoft sniper rifles without any worries.
